There are so many incredible wedding venues in Richmond, and it can be hard to pick the best ones! As a boutique full-service event company serving Richmond and across Virginia, we have planned weddings at so many venues in the city. After years of planning, we want to share our favorite Richmond Virginia wedding venues! From historical, to modern, we will share them all and why we love them so much.
When looking for a wedding venue, there are a few things to keep in mind. How many guests are you inviting? Many of these venues can hold many people, but some are smaller and better for intimate weddings and elopements. And keep in mind the overall feel of your wedding. If you are looking for an old-world romance, look at historic homes around the Richmond area. If you want a modern wedding, there are some great options downtown.
If you are looking for a vintage-inspired estate, you might love Dover Hall! This is a huge venue, with 33,000 square feet of space, and 55 acres of land. The pavilion alone can hold up to 400 guests! The home is filled with grandeur, and guests are always in awe of the two-story ballroom. They also have a large kitchen on site with catering, a bridal suite, and 30 guest rooms. So you and your family don’t even have to leave the property! It really allows couples to have complete wedding weekends. The endless acres of land allow for multiple ceremony, cocktail, and reception spots.
This hotel in Downtown Richmond offers historic design, with modern amenities, and is easy for out-of-town guests to get to. Guests can stay at a nearby hotel, walk over, or stay right at The Jefferson Hotel and just go downstairs. This hotel is a feature in Richmond, and once you step inside you will see why! The Rotunda is perfect for cocktail hours, and the ballrooms give you multiple design options. However, if you have an intimate wedding, their Lemaire Restaurant is a perfect spot for a smaller guest count.
This gorgeous venue is one of my favorites! In fact, I love it so much that this is where I got married! I recently shared an old-world romantic-inspired elopement at The Virginia House that captures how incredible this historic estate is. This English Tudor makes you feel like you have been whisked away to an English Countryside, complete with 8 acres of grounds and gardens. Whether you chose an elopement in the garden, or use the complete house for a full wedding weekend, there are so many options available. You will love The Virginia House!
If you can’t quite decide between historic and modern, Main Street Station is the perfect in-between! There are two very different venues on site. The first is The Headhouse, which is a French Renaissance-style ballroom. The high ceilings and marble floors make this a gorgeous space. For the modern steel and wood couple, The Shed is for you. The Shed is an expanse of steel and woof beams with glass on all four sides. It’s the length of two football fields – so perfect for large weddings and events.
If you are looking for something with a mid-century modern feel, check out the Common House. With four spaces to chose from, the Common House is very versatile! You can have your ceremony in the full open-air courtyard with a beautiful brick wall as your backdrop. Or you can select Union Hall, which is bathed in natural light and 20-foot ceilings with original tin tiles. You can also do an intimate elopement or reception dinner inside the wine cellar for a handful of guests. Their modern furniture is available to use, and all goes perfectly with the cool and fun decor.
Similar to The Jefferson Hotel, The John Marshall Ballrooms inside the Hotel John Marshall makes hosting a wedding in Richmond a breeze! Especially if you are planning a destination wedding in Richmond. Labeled “The Finest Hotel In The South”, it truly is a work of art. The Marshall Ballroom features thirty-foot windows, and vintage crystal chandeliers that is perfect for a luxury affair. The Virginia Ballroom is grand, and can host a large party, with a second-story balcony that lets guests view the dancing from above.
Located outside of Richmond, The Mill at Fine Creek gives you an option outside of Richmond, without driving too far. With 10-acres, you can have the full property, as well as the creek nearby. Couples can select from three outdoor ceremony sites, including the original millstone ruins, the pergola, or right on the creek. The indoor reception space has a wraparound outdoor deck and can hold up to 225 guests. Plus, there are 13 guest cottages, so you can stay right on the property!
